Solutions
The source of JUKI’s solutions
JUKI established a Sewing Efficiency Laboratory in 1959, six years after initiating the Industrial Sewing Machinery Business. At that time when sewing factories were positioned as cottage industry facilities in the industrial structure, factory operations were guided mainly by intuition and experience. JUKI established the Sewing Efficiency Laboratory in the belief that “Japan’s sewing industry will only have a future if its factories are operated based on the scientific management of data collected.” - Working on this assumption, JUKI’s top management directed the persons concerned to carry out an internal study of sewing manufacturing systems and then opened the Sewing Efficiency Laboratory as a specialized department supporting the modernization of factories. Publications like the Management Selection Series from the Japan Management Association widely reported on JUKI’s activities using the production management and IE (Industrial Engineering) techniques in Japan’s manufacturing industries. The activities that carve out a new future of the sewing industry became hot topics of discussion.
The Sewing Efficiency Laboratory provides customer-oriented solutions by collecting and analyzing data on operator behavior, line balance, factory layout, etc., pointing out problems, proposing improvement measures, providing support to improve production efficiency and productivity, and conducting plant design and various seminars. The name of the organization, Sewing Efficiency Laboratory, has been changed to another name, but JUKI is still continuously conducting the activities to ensure the best performance of the entire sewing factories not only by providing products (sewing machines), but also by providing support in solving problems. These solution techniques developed through the decades have been passed down not only to the Industrial Sewing Machinery Business, but also to the rest of JUKI’s businesses.

JUKI’s solution activities
As the IoT era progresses, businesses tend to place emphasis on both the performance of useful “products” and the solutions to be solved by “services.” JUKI’s solution activities harness the company’s forefront technical and supporting capabilities to solve problems with the whole customer factories, including pre- and post-processes.
JUKI always remembers to strive to tailor its technical capabilities to customer needs and sets the groundwork for its future as a company “that delivers new value to customers by providing JUKI-grown technologies as helpful solutions.”
